You Need an Email List; Here is Why

What if I told you that you do not own your social media accounts? And the one thing you actually own in these internet streets is your email list.

When I first started Lesline Does Wellness four years ago I was so hesitant about investing in an email list. I thought to myself, “I’m not there yet” “I’m not a guru or an expert” “Why would people want to read MY emails?” 

I also had insecurities about writing emails because I did not consider myself a writer. But look at me now writing blogs!

I was completely wrong.

Hindsight is 20/20 and I realized what was missing was that I was not writing from my heart. But the more I built my consistency muscle of sending my weekly emails (one of my coaches suggested this), the more I became confident each time I hit send. As I kept writing my emails, I started thinking less and less of what people would think of me and came back to my purpose. My why. Why did I start my business, not why did I invest in an email list. Ask yourself that same question. Why did you start your business? 

I’m not gonna lie to you, business has not been easy. Just last year I did not have the money to keep my email list and had to put it on credit. I also did not want to put the payment on credit because I did not think it was worth it, but then something happened. I reached out to my community and one of my friends said “Lesline, the reason I got Flodesk for my business is because I loved getting your emails.” 

Me: “You read my emails?”

Friend: “Of course I do.”

I’m not an emotional person, but that really touched me. The reason it touched me is because over the past year I have been writing from the heart. Just like how I am writing this blog post. I am letting it flow just like how I choose to teach my yoga classes to new moms.
